Bushnell University Announces Accelerated Bachelors Degree in Nursing

Bushnell University will accept applications in June for its new Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) degree program for students who have earned a bachelor’s degree in another academic discipline from a regionally accredited four-year college or university.

Bushnell’s Accelerated BSN is a 12-month, on campus pre-licensure nursing degree program that will begin January 2022. The Oregon State Board of Nursing granted initial program approval in February.

“The 32 students admitted to the program will experience a nursing education steeped in the pursuit of academic excellence and holistic, respectful, just nursing care for diverse individuals and communities,” said Linda Veltri, Ph.D., RN and Associate Dean of Nursing. “Upon graduation, a Bushnell Nurse will be able to skillfully provide safe, quality, compassionate care to others in their time of need and meet the need for a bachelor’s prepared nursing workforce.”

There are approximately 49,279 Registered Nurses in Oregon, but employment statistics indicate there is an urgent need for 26,600 more well-educated men and women to join the nursing workforce over the next 10 years.

“In Oregon, nursing programs are at capacity creating a need and an opportunity,” Veltri said. “Bushnell’s decision to add an Accelerated BSN program helps fill the growing need for bachelor’s prepared nurses locally and regionally.”

The addition of Bushnell’s Accelerated BSN is a timely extension of its successful online RN to BSN and Master of Science in Nursing programs. It is the University’s first on campus nursing program in decades and another example of a rich history caring for the community that dates back to its founding of what is now PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center University District in 1908.
