Christy Silverthorne and Taylor Irons Receive President’s Award

EUGENE, Ore. – Bushnell University and its president, Dr. Joseph Womack, honored two outstanding individuals during Commencement this past weekend, one from its staff and one from its faculty, for their exceptional dedication, achievements, and contributions to the university community.

Nominated by faculty, staff, and students, Christy Silverthorne, M.A., Assistant Professor of Marketing, was awarded the President’s Award for Teaching Excellence and Campus Leadership, while Taylor Irons, M.A., Assistant Director of Admissions and Visit and Event Coordinator, received the President’s Award for Exemplary Staff Performance and Campus Leadership.

“Bushnell University is, first and foremost, a teaching institution. We also take pride in developing the whole person through scholarship, deepening of faith, and formation of character,” said Dr. Womack. “This year’s recipient for Teaching Excellence, Christy Silverthorne, knows her students, engages with them in and out of the classroom, and helps them find their calling. Her impact has been evident since her adjunct teaching days. Taylor Irons, the Exemplary Staff Award recipient, has a servant’s heart and loves the Bushnell community. She exemplifies wisdom, faith, and service.”

Both Silverthorne and Irons are integral to the campus community. Silverthorne enhances the academic experience for students with practical, real-world experiences, bringing her expertise in nonprofit communications and digital storytelling. Irons provides diverse leadership in admissions, planning campus visits and events for prospective students, including group visits, Preview Days, and Information Sessions. She also oversees the student tour guide program and assists international students through the admissions process.
