Wellman Named NAIA National Athlete of the Week

NAIA NATIONAL FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

EUGENE, Ore.  – For the second time in his career, Junior Kaleo Wellman has been as named NAIA Field Athlete of the Week as announced by the national office on Thursday.

Wellman won the Long Jump at Oregon State University’s Pacific Northwest Invitational, earning an NAIA “A” Qualification standard and breaking the school record at 7.64 meters (25-00.75).

He won the event by eight inches and is currently ranked No. 1 in the NAIA this season. Only two athletes across the nation have qualified for the national championship thus far.

This is the second NAIA national weekly honor for Wellman, who also earned the award once during his sophomore season. He is also a five-time Cascade Conference Player of the Week.
