Bushnell University Leads Nation in Phillips Scholars

Bushnell University has joined Texas Christian University (TCU) with more students than any other college or university in the nation related to the Christian Church (Disciple of Christ) to receive the prestigious Phillips University Legacy Scholarship and Leadership Development.

Bushnell University and TCU each have five students receiving the scholarship this academic school year that can be for as much as $8,000 per academic year. The scholarships are based on a student’s academic achievement as well as past, present and potential leadership in their church, community and academic environments. Recipients do not have to attend a Disciple of Christ church.

Scholars are also enrolled in the Phillips University Legacy Leadership Development program. Through conferences, seminars and other events, they develop their leadership capabilities through education, mentorship, and networking with Phillips alumni and other lay and Christian leaders.

Bushnell’s Phillips Legacy Scholarship and Leadership Development recipients for the school year are:

  • Taylor Bryant, Junior, Communication Major from Eugene, Oregon
  • Purity Maina, Senior, Accounting Major from Kiserian, Kenya
  • Payton Martin, Senior, Math Major from Wasilla, Alaska
  • Samantha May, Junior. Business Major from Cottage Grove, Oregon
  • Alessia Righi, Sophomore, Math and Business Double Major from Florence, Italy

“These generous scholarships allow for Phillips University’s rich tradition of excellence to carry forward through our Bushnell students,” said Joseph D. Womack, Ed.D., Bushnell University’s president “We are proud of these outstanding students for their academic achievement by seeking wisdom, faith, and service through a Christ-center education at Bushnell University.”
