BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Bushnell men’s track & field team sent an athlete to the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships for the first time as Freshman Jermaine Schexnayder competed in the Triple Jump on Saturday, posting a 12th place result and improving on his school record mark.
Schexnayder broke his own indoor triple jump record once again, hitting 14.49m (47′ 6½”) in his second jump. He was the top finisher among Cascade Collegiate Conference competitors as Trenton Johnson (14.48m) of Lewis-Clark State College finished one spot behind him for 13th.
Seth Alexander of Xavier-Louisiana won the event with a jump of 15.42m (50′ 7 ¼”).
Director of Track & Field Kyle Will said, “I’m super impressed for a young freshman to go to nationals and not only set another school record but continue to improve and show the poise and confidence increase. To end up 12th and be the third-best freshman is unbelievable. It’s really exciting for our program and for him. As he gets more experience and strength, I would not be surprised if he is an individual national champion before he graduates. I’m excited to see what he can do in outdoor.”
Schexnayder will now prepare for the outdoor season as he looks to qualify for the NAIA Outdoor National Championship, hosted at the IWU Track Complex and Marion, Ind.
