What You’ll Study
How the Curriculum is Structured
The Reading Interventionist Certificate curriculum develops advanced competencies in literacy instruction, assessment, and intervention. Coursework addresses foundational and current issues in literacy, best practices in reading and writing, culturally responsive instruction, emergent literacy, and content-area reading strategies. You learn to apply reading research through diagnostic assessment and data-informed instructional planning. The curriculum is aligned with the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) and the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), preparing you to implement safe, effective, and research-based literacy practices
Clinical Practice
Clinical practice is an essential component of the Reading Interventionist Certificate. During school-based clinical experiences, you work closely with a certified teacher in your area of concentration under supervised support. You apply research-based instructional strategies, address diverse learner needs, and develop a work sample demonstrating professional competencies. The practicum emphasizes individualized reading intervention, assessment-informed instruction, and collaboration within educational settings, ensuring that experiential learning outcomes align with academic and licensure expectations.
Career Outcomes & Professional Pathways
Completion of the Reading Interventionist Certificate prepares you to serve as a reading specialist or literacy leader in PK–12 educational settings. As a graduate, you will be able to support students who struggle with reading through targeted intervention, assessment, and instructional planning. Professional contexts may include classroom-based intervention, literacy coaching, collaboration with special education teams, and leadership roles focused on school-wide literacy improvement, family engagement, and evidence-based instructional practice.
