School Counseling Courses and Clinical Practice
Curriculum Overview
Bushnell’s School Counseling curriculum combines graduate coursework with supervised field experiences to prepare you for Oregon school counselor licensure. Throughout the program, you’ll develop counseling knowledge, strengthen your leadership and advocacy skills, and apply what you learn through real-world experiences in K–12 school settings.
Clinical Practice
Clinical experiences are integrated throughout the program and culminate in practicum and internship placements where you’ll complete 600 hours of supervised internship experience in elementary and secondary schools. Students gain hands-on experience working alongside licensed school counselors while supporting the academic, social, emotional, and career development of K–12 students.
Track II students also complete an additional 200-hour classroom practicum that strengthens their understanding of teaching, learning, curriculum, and school culture before beginning their counseling internship.

*These courses are required for Track II students who do not hold a valid teaching license or hold a valid teaching license but have less than two years full-time documented teaching experience.
Practicum & Internship
During practicum and internship, you’ll apply classroom learning in authentic K–12 school environments while receiving supervision from experienced school counselors and Bushnell faculty. These experiences help you build counseling skills, professional confidence, and the practical experience needed to support students, collaborate with educators and families, and navigate the responsibilities of today’s school counselor.
