Admission Requirements

Admission to Bushnell University’s Master of Arts in School Counseling program is designed to identify applicants who demonstrate academic preparation, professional potential, and a commitment to supporting K–12 students. Applications are reviewed holistically, considering academic achievement, professional experience, leadership potential, and readiness for graduate study.

To be considered for admission, applicants must submit:

Graduate application for admission
Official transcripts showing completion of a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution
Minimum 3.0 undergraduate GPA*
Two- to three-page statement of purpose
Current resume documenting education and experience working with school-age children
Professional recommendation (preferably from a supervisor in an educational setting)
Two disposition assessments
Personal interview with the Admissions Committee
Proof of English proficiency (if applicable)

*Applicants with an undergraduate GPA below 3.0 may submit a one-page supplemental essay explaining their academic history for additional admissions consideration.

Program Prequisites

Applicants must complete one undergraduate Human Development course (or the equivalent of Bushnell University’s PSY 320 Human Development).

Students may apply before completing this prerequisite; however, successful completion is required before full admission into the program.

Applicants pursuing Track I must also provide documentation of:

Two years of successful licensed teaching experience
Valid teaching license

Once you’ve gathered your application materials, you can submit your application through Bushnell University’s Graduate Admissions office.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis as space is available within each cohort.

Applicants should submit all required materials at least two weeks prior to their program’s start date.

International Applicants

International students are welcome to apply.

In addition to the standard application materials, international applicants must provide:

Official transcript evaluation through an approved credentialing agency
Proof of English proficiency
Financial documentation
Additional immigration documentation required for an I-20

English Proficiency

Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate English proficiency.

Bushnell accepts:

TOEFL (80+)
IELTS (6.0+)
Duolingo English Test (110+)
PTE Academic (58+)

Additional methods of demonstrating English proficiency may also be accepted.

Veterans & Military Students

Bushnell University’s graduate programs are approved for GI Bill® education benefits.

Veterans and active-duty military personnel should follow the standard admissions process while working with Bushnell’s School Certifying Official to coordinate educational benefits.

Bushnell also participates in the Army Concurrent Admissions Program (ConAP), allowing eligible service members to defer enrollment until completing active-duty service.
