Understanding Licensure

Bushnell University’s Master of Arts in School Counseling prepares graduates to pursue Oregon school counselor licensure through accredited coursework, supervised field experiences, and professional preparation. Throughout the program, faculty guide students through the licensure process and help them understand the professional expectations required for success in K–12 schools.

Oregon Licensure Requirements

Bushnell’s School Counseling program is approved by the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC), preparing graduates to pursue Oregon school counselor licensure.

The curriculum aligns with Oregon licensure standards while combining classroom instruction, supervised clinical experiences, and faculty mentorship to prepare graduates for professional practice.

Before beginning clinical experiences, students should also complete:

Fingerprint clearance through TSPC
Civil Rights in Educational Settings training
Additional professional requirements established by Oregon licensure standards

Fingerprint clearance must be obtained before official admission to the program, and required training must be completed before beginning practicum or internship experiences.

Out-of-State Licensure

Bushnell’s School Counseling program is designed to meet Oregon licensure standards.

If you plan to pursue licensure in another state, we encourage you to review your state’s certification requirements before enrolling. Because licensure requirements vary, additional coursework, examinations, or documentation may be required after graduation.

Our faculty and admissions team can help you understand reciprocity requirements and identify any additional steps needed to meet your state’s licensure standards.
